Youth Coverage at UN Climate Conferences

Cliente/Parceiro: Viração Educomunicação
Year of execution: 2012 – 2016

Project Summary
Between 2012 and 2016, I coordinated youth coverage of the United Nations Climate Change Conferences (COPs), in partnership with the Brazilian organization Viração Educomunicação. Each year, young people of different nationalities were selected to form delegations that produced journalistic and educational content directly from the international climate negotiation spaces.

My role ranged from recruiting delegations to designing and implementing pre-conference training, preparing participants to understand how COPs work, the main topics under discussion, and the importance of the negotiation process. During the conferences, I was responsible for moderating daily agenda meetings, providing individual and group mentoring, and supporting the production, editing, and publication of content.

The project sought to create a space for youth-to-youth dialogue about the climate crisis, bringing the international agenda closer to local realities and strengthening youth participation in global debates.

Impact/Results
– Training dozens of young communicators from different countries as educators and multipliers in their territories.
– Production of journalistic content that democratized access to climate negotiations for young audiences.
– Consolidation of an innovative space for youth participation and dialogue at UN COPs.
